Review: BLADE OF THE IMMORTAL is an Insanely Awesome Fantasy Martial Arts Film!

If you are into fantasy martial arts films, you can’t miss out on director Takashi Miike's 100th film Blade of the Immortal! I️ was so excited to see this movie, especially because the trailers made it look like it was going to be one hell of a badass flick, and guess what? It totally was! The movie was amazing!

The moment I️ saw that the movie playing at a little indie theater near me over the weekend I️ dropped everything I was doing and didn't hesitate to rush out to catch the final screening of the day. This is one of those films that I was really hoping to catch on the big screen and luckily I had the opportunity.

Takashi Miike delivered a film that was filled with complete and utter awesomeness from beginning to end! It told a fantastic story of redemption and revenge and it was such a crazy and brutally wide ride!

Blade of the Immortal was filled with wonderfully badass bloody violence that any martial arts fan will appreciate. Not only was the action fantastically brutal, but the story it told was so freakin' good! There are actually two separate storylines that the film follows that end up converging at the end of the film in the most epic way.

I️ seriously loved how the journey of these characters in the movie came to an end. It was one of the most satisfying endings to a movie that I’ve experienced in a long time.

I won't spoil anything for you, but the film centers on a highly skilled samurai named Manji in feudal Japan who is cursed with everlasting life. A young girl is told to go to him to help her avenge the murder of her father and find her month who was kidnapped by a group of ruthless master swordsmen, who have their own agenda. Manji agrees to aid her on her journey of revenge. In the process, Manji ends up on a personal quest for redemption.

I also want to point out that the actors who played the two main characters gave incredible performances. Manji was played by Takuya Kimura and Rin Asano was played by Hana Sugisaki. The chemistry between these two actors was so strong, and they strengthened each other's performances.

I am a huge fan of martial arts films and I️ haven’t seen a martial arts movie in a long time that completely blew me away like Blade of the Immortal did. This is easily one of my favorite movies of the year. You have to go see this! If it's playing in a theater near you do not hesitate to go see it. This is a movie that must be experienced on the big screen.

I'll definitely be watching it one or two more times before it leaves theaters.
