Review: EDEN is a Beautiful Story Now on Netflix

Eden is a new CG anime series on Netflix that is available to watch now. The series was created by Justin Leach, is written by Kimiko Ueno, and directed by Yasuhiro Irie. Qubic Pictures and CGCG Studio Incorporated produced the series which stars Ruby Rose Turner, Rosario Dawson, David Tennant, Neil Patrick Harris, JP Karliak, Cassandra Lee Morris, and Julie Nathanson. Netflix was kind enough to provide me a screener and I’ve included my thoughts below.

Thousands of years in the future, a city known as “Eden” is inhabited solely by Artificially Intelligent robots whose former masters vanished long ago. On a routine assignment, within the depths of the city, two maintenance robots accidentally awaken a human baby girl from stasis questioning all they were taught to believe-- that humans were nothing more than a forbidden ancient myth. Together, the two robots secretly raise the child in a safe haven outside Eden.

Eden was an incredible 4 episodes. The animation is gorgeous, the voice cast is phenomenal, the story is touching, and the characters are incredible. Some of the points that are “twists” are fairly predictable, but I didn’t find that to be a big deal. You’ll find yourself crying by the end though, so have a tissue or two handy.

The show explores the impact of humanity on the environment and the role that humans play in the world. We get to see a world where there are no humans and it’s flourishing. We also see a little bit of the world back when humans were around and it’s not that great. However, there’s a balance that we should strive for. We also explore a little bit of family what it means to be a family. Also, what happens when you lose those ties? Eden is four episodes and explores deep topics in beautiful ways.

I highly recommend taking the 2 hours it takes to watch Eden. It’s a gorgeous show with a beautiful story.
