Review: EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE is an Awesome and Weird Film Filled With Heart
After watching the trailer for Everything Everywhere All At Once, I knew it was going to be a weird and quirky action-packed movie that I had to see. Then there’s the fact that it starred Michelle Yeoh who I’m a huge fan of, and this looked like a unique film that’s unlike anything she’s been in before.
The movie was directed by The Daniels, who previously made that crazy Swiss Army Man movie, which was a strange, yet charming film. I assumed we would see that type of charm in Everything Everywhere All At Once, and I’m happy to say that their latest movie exploded with it! It was so good and so charming that I just wanted to give the movie a big ol’ hug.
The trailer for the movie really highlights the action in the film and while it is loaded with plenty of extremely cool action sequences to keep you entertained, the action is actually the least interesting part of the film! The thing that makes this so great is the wonderfully moving story it tells and the unique way that it was brought to life. I’ve never seen anything like this before and it was really quite a beautifully made movie.
From the moment that the movie started, I was hooked, and it held my interest from beginning to end. The story took these characters on quite a journey filled with so many different emotions and there was a lot that I could relate to, more than I expected.
After experiencing this journey, I walked out of the movie looking at life and the troubles we face in a different way. It just beamed with positivity! I was feeling so damn optimistic when I walked out of the theater and I’m still reeling from that feeling a few days after watching the movie.
In the story, Yeoh plays a woman who is tasked with stopping a great evil that is spreading throughout the multiverse after an interdimensional rupture unravels reality. She’s an unlikely hero who finds herself on quite the crazy adventure that involves her tapping into the various versions of herself that exist in the multiverses. On her journey, she faces off with bizarre and bewildering dangers from the multiverse as the fate of the world hangs in the balance.
On top of that, there’s this whole story about her relationship with her family, including her husband, Waymond Wang who is played by Ke Huy Quan; her daughter Joey Wang, who is played by Stephanie Hsu; and her father Gong Gong, who is played by James Hong. I loved how the relationships of these characters were explored in the film. It’s where the heart and soul of the story lies. Then there’s Jamie Lee Curtis, who plays a villainous IRS worker.
The entire cast gave wonderful performances! Michelle Yeoh was amazing, and this might just be one of her best roles in a film. It was also great to see Ke Huy Quan back in a movie after all these years! He’s best known for his work in The Goonies and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. He was awesome in the movie and I hope to see him in more films!
A lot of reviews I’ve seen proclaim that this is the best multiverse movie ever. It’s so much more than a multiverse movie, though! Sure, the multiverse aspect of it is incredibly cool and is awesomely executed, but it’s just an all around great film that tells a thought-provoking and moving story.
The Daniels made this incredible movie for around $12 million. That’s it! Look at what they did with that budget and it’s better than most of the big blockbuster movies that are being made! It just goes to show that you don’t need a big massive budget to tell amazing stories and bring high concept films to life.
Go see this movie! If we want to see more movies like this get made, we’ve got to go to the theater and support it!
