Review: FAIRY TALES OF REMNANT Is Incredible
Fairy Tales of Remnant was released about a week ago from E.C. Myers, and Scholastic was kind enough to send me a copy to read. As a big fan of RWBY, I was very excited to see what awaited me. The book features fairy tales that the characters of the animated series would’ve grown up with, and the art inside from Violet Tobacco is fantastic. It’s very exciting. If you haven’t picked up your copy yet, you can grab one from your favorite outlet including Amazon.
The fairy tales created by Myers are very well crafted. They read like fairy tales, although some feel a little less formal. That’s not a problem though as this book is presented as a collection of tales that Ozpin from RWBY has collected from a variety of sources including some of the professors at Beacon Academy. This adds a bit of flair to some of the stories.
In addition to the stories themselves, there are notes after each one where Ozpin talks about the tale. It’s interesting to see what notes the headmaster of Beacon provides to each of these tales. What’s more is how incredibly well Myers writes in Ozpin’s voice. Everything written is something that I could see Ozpin saying in a class or presentation. It should be noted that the collection is written as if it were taking place before the end of Season 3. I’d be really interested to have a follow-up where Ozpin explains what parts of these tales are true though and explores more of their origins since we know as of Season 6 that he’s been around for all of them.
If you’re a fan of RWBY or even fairy tales in general, I would definitely recommend grabbing Fairy Tales of Remnant. There are some things that those not familiar with RWBY won’t understand like semblances and aura, but with just a bit of research you can understand those and enjoy some brand new fairy tales.
