Review: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 is an Amazingly Fun Wild Adventure
For those of you hoping that Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 would be a good sequel, I have some great news for you because the movie is absolutely amazing! Knowing what James Gunn was planning for the film and seeing the trailers leading up to it, my expectations we set super high. I expected so much from this movie and it went above and beyond delivering the greatness I expected!
If you're a fan of the first film, you’re going to love Vol. 2! It has all of the great humor, action, drama, and adventure that you’d expect, and on top of that there’s that powerful emotional element that might just leave you in tears, just like the end of the first film did. It may not have the same effect on everyone, but there were a lot of audience members wiping the tears away from their eyes by the time the credits rolled.
One of my other favorite aspects of the movie was the story and the surprising way that it plays out. There were a lot of unexpected plot points that I didn't see coming. Don’t worry, I won’t spoil any of them in this review for you. This is one of those crazy, fun, wild movie adventures that you just have to experience for yourself. The trailers for the film only give you a little taste of what’s in store for you.
I was a big fan of the way the characters were handled in the film and how their relationships and dynamics were explored further. We get to see different sides to all of these characters and what it’s like for them as they all struggle to be a unified family as they are battling their own inner demons. It’s a really deep and fascinating character study and it made me care even more for these characters.
It’s hard to pinpoint what my favorite dynamic was because I love all the characters so much. We get to see Gamora and Nebula work out their deep-seeded family issues, which gets really interesting. We get to watch Peter Quill and Nebula grow a little closer together; There’s a great dynamic explored between Rocket Raccoon, Quill, and Yondu; Drax’s interaction with Mantis is so freakin’ funny, and the whole team is still getting used to baby Groot. Then, of course, there’s the big father and son relationship between Quill and Ego. The whole movie pretty much revolves around that relationship, and the effects of it help drive the relationship arcs of everyone else. It's really a fascinating dynamic.
I also just to have to say that Kurt Russell in the role of Ego the Living Planet was inspired casting. He was so great in the role and there’s something that I want to talk about so bad regarding the character that happens early on in the film, but I’ll refrain from saying anything. Just expect something really cool. All of the other actors were great as well, each of them take their characters to a whole new level as the film dives deeper into who they are.
Oh! And speaking of cool! The opening title sequence is freakin’ radical and it's even better than the opening title sequence of the first movie. From that point on, you’ll be completely engulfed in the movie. I think I had a had a huge smile on my face through the whole damn film!
The movie is packed full of fun and surprising Easter eggs that fans are going to eat up. A couple of these great cameos are going to have you busting up with laughter, and get you excited for what is to come in the future of the franchise.
It’s hard to say that the sequel is better than the first film because I love the first movie so much. I will say, though, that as of right now I think Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is equally as amazing as the first one! Maybe the more I watch the sequel it will start to sway in either direction.
What I love about these Guardians of the Galaxy films most is that they make me feel like a little kid again and it has everything that I love about the movies. Vol. 2 just made me so wonderfully happy! Yep, I'm giving it an 11 out of 10 score!
