Review: HEROES' FEAST Provides Some Yummy Dishes for Special Occasions

Dungeons & Dragons have launched a new cookbook called Heroes’ Feast. They were kind enough to send me a copy and it’s been fun to look through. It’s been even better to taste some of the recipes. If you’re looking for food similar to what you find at your local renaissance fair, you may want to check this book out.

Heroes’ Feast features 80 dishes and since receiving my copy, I’ve tried three of them. All three were good. However, the Moonshae Seafood Rice needed to be adjusted, like adding pepper and lemon juice, to have some actual flavor (it was my favorite though) and the Sembian Honey-Glazed Rothe Ribs would probably be a lot better if cooked a different way.

One thing that me and my wife noticed about the recipes is that a lot of the recipes require a lot of time. They felt a lot more like special occasion dishes for when you want to go all out with your adventuring party instead of your normal Thursday dinner.

The biggest complaint about Heroes’ Feast is its organization. It’s fun to have the recipes organized by the culture they come from. However, if you’re looking for a type of dish like dessert, meat, fish, etc. it was impossible. One thing that could’ve helped is if there was an appendix with such organization and then you could keep the cultural organization the same. As it is, it’s really hard to actually find anything unless you know exactly what you’re looking for.

Overall, if you’re looking for fun dishes to make for those party celebrations for after the world is done being a mess, Heroes’ Feast is a fun one to pick up.
