Review: HOBBS & SHAW Was Absolutely Ridiculous, But So Much Fun To Watch!
I’ve been pretty stoked about seeing Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s next installment of the Fast & Furious franchise, Hobbs & Shaw. Judging from the trailers that were released, the movie looked like it was going to be a blast, and you know what? It totally was!
Hobbs & Shaw is easily the most over the top and ridiculous installment of the franchise. It is absolutely silly, there are a lot of stupid things in it, there’s a lot of aspects of the film that don’t make any sense, and it’s just a ludicrous story! But, the film is packed full of over-the-top action, funny pointless comedy, and I love the character dynamics between Johnson and Statham’s Hobbs and Shaw! Vanessa Kirby also made a badass addition to the franchise and I hope to see more of her in the future. Then there was Idris Elba as the film’s super powered villain, and he was great.
The movie also has a couple fun cameos that are going to surprise you. I won’t say who they are, but I know that fans are going to get a kick out of them. They each bring some cheeseball comedy to the film that I’m sure fans will appreciate.
Director David Leitch (Deadpool 2, John Wick) brought his stunt and action expertise to this movie and delivered some awesomely insane action sequences that are going to blow fans away. This movie definitely takes the action to the next level of WTF. A lot of that action is teased in trailers for the film, but there’s so much to enjoy. Just wait until you see how some of these action sequences play out.
I was in a screening full of press for this movie and normally they are pretty dull and you don’t get a lot of reaction from them, but with this film, there were cheers, clapping, and joyful laughing all throughout the movie.
There is a mysterious villain introduced in the film that is pulling the strings of Elba’s character, Brixton. This is the guy who created Brixton and gave him his superpowers. The identity of this character is not revealed in the film, but even though his voice digitally messed with, if you listen hard, you can tell who it is, especially if you’re familiar with what’s happening with the franchise. I won’t say who it is, I’ll let you try and figure it out when you watch the movie.
Look, when you go and see one of these movies, you know exactly what you’re getting yourself into. You know how insanely absurd it’s going to be. You just gotta sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride, because this movie gives you a wild one!
Also make sure to stay after the credits, there are a few post-credits scenes to enjoy.
