Review: HOCUS POCUS 2 is a Fun Halloween Film That Fans and Families Will Enjoy

Hocus Pocus fans were extremely excited when Disney announced it would be developing a sequel for Disney+ with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy coming back to reprise their roles. Hocus Hocus 2 has arrived just in time for the Halloween season for fans to watch and if you enjoyed the first film, chances are you’re gonna have a good time watching this one.

The original Hocus Pocus is big deal with my family. My girls have watched the original film a ton of times over the years, so I’m very familiar with it. They watched it so much that, yeah… I got really tired of seeing it. I was relieved that we would be getting a sequel so at least I’d have something new to watch with these characters.

I was just hoping that the sequel would be as fun and entertaining as the first movie. That’s all I wanted, and that’s exactly what I got. Hocus Pocus 2 was almost on par with the original movie and it’s the quality that I was expecting. The movie met my expectations and I have no doubt that fans of the original film are going to have a lot of fun watching it! It’s a lighthearted horror film that the whole family can enjoy.

Will the sequel be a classic like the original? I don’t know! But, I can see fans watching them back to back every year during the Halloween season. I know that’s what my wife and girls are probably going to want to do. Is the sequel as good as the original? No, but it was still entertaining.

The sequel is directed by Anne Fletcher (27 Dresses, The Proposal), and the story follows the three infamous witches as they seek revenge in present-day Salem. The youth-hungry sisters are again scheming to suck the lives out of children before sunrise, and it's up to three teens, Becca (Whitney Peak), Cassie (Lilia Buckingham), and Izzy (Belissa Escobedo) to stop the Sandersons.

The original cast did a great job slipping right back into the Sanderson characters that they played all those years ago. As for the new young cast that joined them, they were fine! They are three young teen actors starring in a Disney+ movie, so you know what to expect.

The movie also starred Doug Jones as Billy Butcherson, Whitney Peak (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Lilia Buckingham (Crown Lake), Belissa Escobedo (American Horror Stories), Froy Guiterrez (Cruel Summer), Sam Richardson (The Afterparty), Hannah Wadingham (Ted Lasso), and Tony Hale (Arrested Development, Toy Story 4).

I hope you all have fun watching Hocus Pocus 2 with your friends and families this Halloween season!
