Review: Jerry Seinfeld's 23 HOURS TO KILL Earns a Few Laughs But I Expected More From The Iconic Comedian

Jerry Seinfeld has come back to Netflix with a new stand up special, 23 Hours To Kill. It is an hour filled with classic Seifeld yelling and nitpicking about everyday things on top of saying everything “sucks” but is also “great”. As funny as some of these jokes really are, a lot of the jokes land mostly because of his funny, almost silly, delivery, and status as a renowned comedian. But I found only a few laughs were earned by his joke-telling skills on his comedic insight.

Let me be clear, this is a funny comedy show. Seinfeld does a good job of entertaining the crowd, relating well to the people, and having fun in general with the audience. However, it feels like that relatability is all that is generating the laughs. A few times I laughed out loud, but I kind of expected more from such a brilliant writer. It is hard to go much deeper without just repeating his jokes and pointing out each individual’s flaws or simplicity.

It is also a little hard to not note some of his humor seemed to be a little dated or in almost poor taste when coming to marriage and other things. I could be reading a little too far into what he is saying, but again, the problem is that the jokes seem easy, already said and the problems stem from a lack of creativity and real depth than subject matter.

For people that really enjoy Jerry Seinfeld (which I do too), I am sure you’ll get some laughs and won’t feel like your time is wasted. If you have nothing else to watch, really like him or want some chill, PG level comedy, 23 Hours To Kill will work just fine. But to call this special anything more than your very average Seinfeld stand-up routine would be mistaken.
