Review: LITTLE NIGHTMARES 2 Is Simply Dreadful and Dreamy

The name Little Nightmares 2 might seem like a fun game of jump scares or intense moments, but it is much more than that. But let’s skip the fanfare and jump right into why this game is awesome in almost every way.

The first thing to address here is the scares. Well, this game might not have as many “in your face” horrifying and trauma-inducing moments, but just about every moment will creep you out and leave you on the edge of your seat or make you stop dead in your tracks. I was really impressed with the atmosphere of this game; looming darkness and grossness galore. In contrast, the little glimpses of hope and relatability add bits of happiness that make the dread and terror more impactful. No, this game won’t keep you up at night or make you pee your pants, but if you allow it, Little Nightmares 2 will definitely engross you in darkness and worry.

As for the actual gameplay, it’s basically a lite puzzle and platforming game. It’s similar to its predecessor and other games like Limbo and Inside. The environmental puzzles and practical ways to approach things to feel fresh and fun to solve. The puzzle never demanded too much thinking, but they satisfyingly demand you to think creatively. There are a few times where somethings felt poorly set up or interactions with other characters that felt inconsistent. But the overall gameplay was smooth and satisfying from beginning to end. The only issues with this game are what I just mentioned: some of the puzzle mechanics seem to rely too much on specific set-up interactions and some of those timing mechanics or spatial puzzles seemed odd and finicky. This made a few of the action sequences and puzzles with a second character feel a bit more luck-based than skill-based.

This review will reflect the game, short and sweet. Well, Little Nightmares 2 isn’t as much of a sweet experience as it is a dive into horror, but it’s still a pretty awesome experience. For anyone who wants an amazing game filled with scares, terror, and some great puzzles, this will do the trick.
