Review: NON-STOP SPIDER-MAN #1 Barely Lets You Take a Breath
Marvel recently dropped Non-Stop Spider-Man #1 from writer Joe Kelly and artists Chris Bachalo and Tim Townsend with colors by Marcio Menyz and letters by Travis Lanham. Marvel was kind enough to send me a copy to review, and I think fans are going to like this one. You can grab physical copies of NSSM #1 from your local comic shop or digital copies are available through outlets including comiXology (affiliate link).
BUCKLE UP, TIGER! Get ready for the most action-packed, pulse-pounding, adrenaline-pumping comic OF ALL TIME! As the name implies, once you read page one, panel one, SPIDER-MAN DOES NOT STOP! A mystery at Empire State University thrusts Spider-Man into an adventure that starts in uptown Manhattan and will take him around the world, pitting him against Marvel Universe villains old and new and give you a Spider-Man adventure (and Spider-Man) the likes of which you’ve never seen. THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART, SO CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE READING!
First and foremost, Bachalo, Townsend, and Menyz did an absolutely amazing job with the art. Every panel is gorgeous and the colors are perfect. Kelly’s story is greatly enhanced by their work. Speaking of the story, this is a very action-packed story from the get go. We get a small breather roughly around the 1/3 mark, but that’s just to give us a little exposition of what’s going on before getting us right back in the thick of things. Peter Parker sure is getting a workout in this story.
One thing to keep in mind is that there is a little stinger that introduces us to our villain of the series, and I really like where this is going. I won’t spoil it, but the villain is not anyone I would’ve thought.
My final note is that everyone should be aware that this storyline deals with substance abuse which is a very real issue. Thankfully, editor Nick Lowe also recognizes this and includes resources for people to access including FindTreatment.gov and 1-800-662-HELP (4357). If you or someone you know needs help, please reach out for help.
I really loved NSSM #1 and can’t wait for the next issue to release in April.
