Review: PUSHEEN THE CAT: PURRFECT PICK CARD GAME Is Cute, Easy and Simple Family Fun
In a world full of serious and intense games, it’s nice to have a game that can be busted out, taught, and played in less than 40 minutes. Pusheen The Cat: Purrfect Pick Card Game is everything adorable, sweet and friendly wrapped up in an easy but still entertaining card game.
If you’re a sucker for cute cat cartoons, then this game will have the perfect aesthetic for you. Its bright and soft colors, simply designed characters and fine finish on the cards make the game look and feel like a surprisingly high-quality product. I do wish that some of the writing on the cards was larger. Also, some of the cards (only a few) had pretty complex abilities, and as cool as they were, I think they might distract from the approachability and simple aesthetics of this game because of the blocks of text on certain cards. But other than that, this game’s presentation is as lovable as it can get in a card game.
The actual gameplay is a series of drafts and in order to collect enough cats, items in order to fulfill goals that award players points. Players can also use a variety of action cards or abilities that are written on some of the goals to alter and change up the gameplay. I was actually somewhat surprised at how simple the gameplay is for Pusheen The Cat. It’s simple enough that a second or third grader could get it, but the drafting and denial of other players make it still interesting enough for adults to play also. This won’t be a game that a group of adults would play together on a competitive (or even just for fun) type of night because it’s basically at the same level as Sorry and Connect 4. However as a family game or a game to introduce board games to a younger audience, it does its job very very well.
Having Pusheen The Cat be the center for this cute game with a little figure and silky smooth cards makes it a pleasant experience for all ages. The drafting system is a great way to bring more complexity to a younger audience. This won’t be a “must-have” game for families, but if people have children that are into cartoons, cute animals, or are trying to find some simple and fun family games, then Pusheen The Cat: Purrfect Pick Card Game will work for them.
