Review: RADIANT BLACK Is a Fantastic Comic Series You Should Read

The second issue of Radiant Black has been released by Image Comics. This series is written by Kyle Higgins and features art by Marcelo Costa. I wanted to share my thoughts on the series now that we have two issues out. If you haven’t read the comic yet, you can purchase them from your local comic store, comiXology (affiliate link), and more. I’ll do my best to not spoil anything.

Nathan Burnett has just turned thirty, and things aren’t great: He’s working (and failing) at two jobs, his credit card debt is piling up, and his only move…is moving back home with his parents.

But when Nathan discovers and unlocks the ethereal, cosmic RADIANT, he's given the power to radically change his fortunes!

There’s just one problem: The powers don’t belong to him. And the COSMIC BEINGS who created them want them back...by any means necessary.

Radiant Black is a new superhero comic that is good. The first issue does an amazing job of establishing our main character, Nathan. Higgins does a great job of giving us only the necessary information to get us started. Radiant Black #2 then slowly continues to flesh out the world while getting us the action. Combine the tight storytelling with Costa’s beautiful art, and I can’t recommend this comic enough.

In addition, the characters are well-written and feel real and genuine. There are some moments where characters fall into tropes, but for the most part, they all feel like thought-out three-dimensional characters.

I really think more people need to read Radiant Black. It’s absolutely incredible so far, and I hope Higgins and Costa are able to take it far.
