Review: RWBY: THE OFFICIAL MANGA Vol 2 Is a Fine Adaptation
Earlier this month, VIZ Media released RWBY: The Official Manga Volume 2. The story and art are by Bunta Kinami, and it is based on the fantastic animated series created by Monty Oum and produced by Rooster Teeth. If you haven’t read it yet, you can purchase physical copies through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, local comic shops, and more. Digital copies are available through many outlets as well including comiXology (affiliate link).
Ruby’s first year at Beacon Academy continues! Team RWBY has officially formed, and Ruby Rose is their leader. While Roman Torchwick still lurks in the shadows, new forces begin to move against Beacon Academy. Who are the White Fang, and what does Blake know about them?
If you watched the second season of RWBY, then you already know what happens in this volume of the manga. The story isn’t changed. The big difference is the art. The manga has gorgeous art by Kinami that really does make me wish sometimes they would re-animate RWBY in the same style. It’s also a great way to refresh yourself quickly. It doesn’t take long to read through and reminds you of things like how Weiss sucked at the start. Now, one thing that I will mention is that the epic food fight is pretty much all cut out. There are about three pages with it, and then it jumps over to Ozpin and Glynda talking.
If you love RWBY, you’ll love The Official Manga. If you couldn’t get into RWBY because of the art, I would recommend trying it out via The Official Manga and then going and watching it.
