Review: SCREAM Is a Fan-Freakin-Tastic Requel That Would Make Wes Craven Proud

Well hell… the Radio Silence directing team actually pulled it off! They went out and made a great new Scream movie that fans of the franchise are going to enjoy the hell out of. I recently had the opportunity to see the film, and it actually ended up exceeding my expectations.

There were so many theories and ideas going through my head about how this movie was going to play out. There were a lot of things I hoped I’d see happen, and other things that I hoped the film would avoid. Well, this movie pretty much took everything I thought would happen and threw it out the window. Well, there is one theory I had that did actually play out, but other than that the whole story subverted my expectations and I loved the movie because of it.

This movie was filled will some great and unexpected twists and turns. I just love how this movie played with the previous films in the franchise. There are so many things that I would love to talk about right now, but I’ll refrain. I don’t want to spoil the fun and believe me, this movie is a ton of fun, especially for the fans!

Those of you who have enjoyed watching the original Scream films over the years and have enjoyed sharing them with your kids are in for quite a treat. Not only is the story a blast, but like all of the scream movies, it’s also filled with brutal bloody violence along with lots of comedic laughs.

I’ve gotta say, the late director Wes Craven would seriously be proud of this movie. It honestly felt like Craven directed it even though he didn’t. If Craven would have made a new Scream movie, this is exactly what it would have been and I appreciate how the filmmakers handled the franchise with this movie, it was a perfect way to move it forward.

It was wonderful seeing the original legacy cast members return to reprise their roles with Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescot, David Arquette as Dewey Riley, and Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers. Then there are the new cast members, who were all fun to watch, and they include Melissa Barrera (In the Heights), Jenna Ortega (The Fallout), Mason Gooding (Tragedy Girls), Jack Quaid (The Boys), and Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why).

I couldn’t be happier with how Scream turned out, and I hope you all have as much of a blast watching it as I did. I can’t wait to see it again with an audience filled with fans!
