Review: SPY X FAMILY is a Fantastic Spy Comedy Manga
VIZ Media recently launched the first volume of the manga Spy x Family. They were kind enough to give me a copy and I absolutely love it. It’s one of my new favorite manga. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect form the manga when I first heard of it, but it is absolutely amazing. The art and story were both created by Tatsuya Endo and they deserve mad props for how well this is written. If you haven’t read it yet, you can order a physical copy through Amazon or Barnes & Noble or you can order a digital copy through retailers like comiXology. Of course, more retailers do carry the book as well.
Not one to depend on others, Twilight has his work cut out for him procuring both a wife and a child for his mission to infiltrate an elite private school. What he doesn’t know is that the wife he’s chosen is an assassin and the child he’s adopted is a telepath!
In Spy X Family, a spy has to infiltrate the opposing government by having a child get accepted into an elite school. This means that the spy has to get a wife and child. He goes and adopts the child which is an interesting experience and what he doesn’t know is that the child is a telepath. Using her telepathic abilities, she learns that he’s a spy and tries to help him however she can so that she can have a family for longer.
Along the way, Twilight (the spy) learns he needs a wife to help get Anya (the child) enrolled in school. After all, the school headmasters conduct family interviews and it would look very poorly if he wasn’t married. So, he picks up a girl who turns out to be an assassin. Of course, he doesn’t know she’s an assassin and she doesn’t know he’s a spy (although I think she suspects something), but Anya totally knows and that’s why she wants them to be together. She thinks it’ll help her have a cooler life.
Things go from there and it becomes more ridiculous and fun the more you read it. I have absolutely loved it and I really hope it becomes an anime soon. I would watch it in a heartbeat! I highly recommend you check out Spy x Family.
