Review: STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is an Incredibly Epic Chapter in The Star Wars Saga
So the movie begins with this amazing shot of... I'm joking! I'm not going to tell you how the Star Wars: The Last Jedi starts! I'm not going to tell you anything regarding the story, and I'm especially not going to tell you how it ends because I don't want to be murdered. This review is going to be completely spoiler free.
Everything that you need to know about this film before you watch it is anything that you've seen in the trailers. Even then, you really don't know anything! The trailers for this film are a complete misdirection. You can try to piece together the big story elements from the film with the footage from the trailers, but all of your theories will be wrong. Lucasfilm did an awesome job with the marketing of this movie! Like Luke Skywalker said in the trailer, "This is not going to go the way you think!"
Director Rian Johnson has crafted one of the best Star Wars films that have been made. And he managed to pull it off in his own style, which I loved. I think a lot of fans are going to love the way Johnson handled the creation of this film. The way the story was told, the visual aspect of it, and the character development were all awesomely executed.
The Last Jedi is full of surprises as there were some crazy twists and turns in the story that I didn't see coming at all. It was certainly an adventurous, action-packed, and emotional journey that left me in an exhausted daze by the time the end credits started to roll. It was a blast! I especially enjoyed the fun humor that was interjected throughout the story.
I'm writing this review about an hour after I watched the movie and I'm still reeling from what I just experienced. By the time the movie ended I was shaking because I was just overcome with all kinds of emotions. As I sit here contemplating the epic events that occurred in The Last Jedi, I'm just completely overwhelmed with happiness. The movie ended up being a lot better and much more exciting than I expected, and I expected a lot!
All of the actors in the film gave fantastic performances. The performances of Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, and Carrie Fisher, were all great and on par with their performances in The Force Awakens. Some of the new additions to the cast include Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern, and Benicio Del Toro and their performances were all fantastic. We also got to see Andy Serkis go full on Supreme Leader Snoke in this film, and that was awesome.
Don't worry, I didn't forget Mark Hamill. I had to save the best for last. Hamill was absolutely incredible as Luke Skywalker! He seriously ended up giving one of the best performances of his career in The Last Jedi and I personally think that he should receive some best actor award nominations for what he accomplished in this movie.
The Empire Strikes Back has always been my favorite Star Wars movie, but The Last Jedi might just be as equally amazing. Only time will tell as I watch the movie over and over again.
I think Star Wars fans are going to love The Last Jedi! There might be some things in the film that don't click for everyone. But, everyone who sees this film will leave the theater completely entertained. I can't wait for all of you to get to see it! I'm excited to see what you all think about it after you see it!
The movie comes on this week on December 15th and I can't wait to see it again! I've already got my tickets for the second time around!
