Review: The DROP+EPOS H3X Gaming Headset Offers Strong Performance for a Fine Price

When gaming for long hours, players are stuck in the same spot, using the same equipment for a long time, barely getting up to even get a snack (that is me basically every Saturday night). When these kinds of nights happen so often, players can enjoy a long night of gaming a lot more when their equipment is comfortable, sturdy, and functions nicely. The EPOS H3X gaming headset made by DROP may not hit the highest marks in each category, but the friendlier price point and reliable simplicity make it a good competitor in the gaming headset battlefield.

The EPOX H3X sounds pretty clear and has a lot of depth in its wrapped headset. The sound quality, which is pretty much the most important part of the headset, is very good. The difference between the lows and highs is kind on the ears while still thrilling in any game. I wish there was a bit more bass overall, but for the price point, it is quite acceptable.

Along with the output of sound, a gaming headset needs to have a quality mic for friends to be able to hear your yells over the blare of shotguns and grenades. The mic quality is about as clear as any cell phone from the last two or three years. The quality is very steady and good, but the ability to pick up subtle sounds or a quieter user is a bit off, so just make sure to not mumble a bunch when in a firefight.

Lastly, comfort needs to be addressed. I know price isn’t everything, but when you first put them on, you know they aren’t the highest quality. They feel a bit stiff and tight. But that might very well just be my head shape. However, they do sit very well and comfortably on top of the head and over the ears for long stretches. I was pleasantly surprised to not have any aches anywhere after using a relatively tight-fitted headset for long gaming sessions.

Overall, the EPOX H3X is a fine headset that is great for its price point. It will be beaten out by most things above its price range, but you would probably be hard-pressed to find anything much better than it at an equal price. It works well, feels pretty good, and won’t make you eat Ramen Noodles as meals for the next few months.
