At long last, I finally had the opportunity to watch the first episode of Marvel’s The Falcon and Winter Soldier series, which is about to drop on Disney+. I’ve had high hopes for this show! Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War are two incredibly well-made Marvel films, and if you enjoyed them, you’re going to love what The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has to offer!

The show has the same tone and vibe as those two fan-favorite Captain America movies, and it feels like a true Marvel project. With WandaVision, it took fans a little getting used to. It was more of a slow burn series that built up to an epic finale. Well, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier starts out in a big and epic way that sucks you right in right away!

The opening scene of the film is an awesome big Marvel movie action sequence that is a blast to watch! I won’t get into the nitty-gritty details, but I will say that Flacon is trying to rescue a soldier who is being kidnapped, and the way it plays out is insanely cool! When you watch that opening sequence, you’ll feel right at home with Marvel. This might just be one of the best opening action sequences in any Marvel project.

In this first episode, we get caught up on what is going on in the lives of Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan). It’s a solid setup to what is sure to be a great and interesting series. The effects of the blip are a big part of the story, people are struggling in the world and dealing with trauma and regret in a big way. But on top of all of the serious stuff, there’s also some fun humor.

This series is going to add a ton of depth to the characters and explore them in ways that they were never really explored in the films. Sam isn’t feeling like he should be the person to take on the mantle of Captain America and trying to get settled in a world with his family after not existing for five years.

Then there’s Bucky, who’s struggling with his past. He’s found himself on a hard journey to make amends for the terrible things he did when he was under Hydra’s control. We finally get to see the character in a vulnerable and emotional state that shows us he’s human.

While the action is great, some of my favorite parts of the episode were the wonderful little character scenes involving Bucky struggling with his past and mental state, and Sam trying to navigate his life in a post-blip life. It shows us what it’s really like for these characters to be a superhero in the MCU.

The Falcon and The Winter Solider gives us big action, a deep story, and a character-driven plot. I couldn’t be happier with how this first episode turned out, Marvel fans are going to love it, and I can’t wait to see how the story plays out over the course of the series! This is gonna be an awesome ride!
