Review: THE GET TOGETHER Is the Modern-Day CAN'T HARDLY WAIT

I got the chance to view the movie The Get Together ahead of its release this Friday, and I was really pleased with the flow of the film. The movie follows a few interwoven stories that al take place at the same party in one night. First we meet recent college graduate August (Courtney Parchman), who is happy to sit at home and watch Netflix with her roommate, but after getting ditched, she takes on an Uber shift and ends up at a party after having driven Caleb (Alejandro Rose-Garcia), a musician who is about to reunite with the one that got away.

That’s when Betsy (Johanna Braddy) comes back into town and stops by to see old friends, when, all along, her boyfriend Damien (Jacob Artist) is just trying to make the night special so that he can propose.

Of course, all kinds of things get in the way of everyone’s plans, and emotions are running high as everyone feels on the precipice of the next phase of their lives. This movie is woven together by friendship and the scary and uncertain next steps we have all been afraid of taking. The movie was directed by Will Bakke (Believe Me), from a script he wrote with collaborator Michael B. Allen.

The Get Together plays out in three acts, and instead of overlapping the story three times with small tweaks to change it, we get brand new story and perspective, with only small overlapping links for reference. This was a fun movie to watch, and the cast was relatable and real. I especially loved the character Lucas, played by Chad Werner. He’s the eternal optimist that we could all use more of in our lives.

The Get Together is set to release On Demand this Friday, May 14th, and you can check it out here on Apple TV+.
