Review: THE GREAT NORTH with Nick Offerman, Starts Out Great
Next month, the team behind Bob’s Burgers are launching a new show called The Great North. FOX has been kind enough to let me watch the first four episodes and I really enjoyed what I saw. There have been a number of clips and trailers released for the show. In addition, they aired the first episode “Sexi Moose Adventure” this last Sunday as a special preview of the series which will officially premiere on February 14 and you can watch it on FOX Now.
As a big fan of Bob’s Burgers, I was really excited to see what this show was all about. I was a little worried that it was going to just be a clone or rip-off, but I’m happy to report that this is not the case and The Great North can 100% stand on its own. The family is different with the kids all being older which definitely brings very different stories and problems. Nick Offerman voices Beef Tobin who’s a single father who struggles with change, but he always has a good heart.
One of my favorite things about The Great North though is Honeybee voiced by Dulcé Sloan. Honeybee Shaw is from California and is definitely more of a city person. However, she’s now in the middle of nowhere in Alaska and just rolls with whatever is going on. There are some really weird things that turn up in the show and are framed as tradition. Instead of Honeybee going on about how she needs to help civilize the people, she just does her best to become involved and it’s really nice to see that.
I am also happy to report that in the first few episodes we do find out how Wolf (Will Forte) and Honeybee became a thing because that is one of the greatest mysteries in these earlier episodes.
The show definitely has a similar vibe and humor to Bob’s Burgers, but they aren’t the same show in different packages. The Great North has its own charm and wit about it with fun characters for people to love. The cast is absolutely spectacular. I would say that so far, the third episode (“Feast of Not People Adventure”) is probably my favorite closely followed by the fourth episode (“Avocado Barter Adventure”). This show is having a great start and hopefully it’s able to flourish. I am ready to continue with the Tobins.
