Review: THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS Was a Cool and Unique Sequel
The first Matrix film that was released completely blew me away. It was unlike anything that I have ever seen before and it changed movies, especially sci-fi and action films. I enjoyed the two sequels that followed and the full story that the original trilogy told, but those sequels weren’t as good as that first one.
I had high hopes for this new film, and expectations that after all these years it would feature some new game changers for the sci-fi action genre. While it didn’t quite do that, I still liked the movie! I enjoyed it and I thought it told a cool and unique story. I really liked how they handled the sequel and how it was unlike any sequel I’ve seen before. I dug the crazy meta aspect, and how it incorporated the original trilogy story into this one.
In fact, the story for this sequel was more interesting to me than the action. Sure, the movie did have some cool action, but it was nothing new or different. In fact, as I watched the film I found myself feeling a little bored during the action scenes. The action scenes felt very generic and poorly cut together. I just wanted them to end so that we could get back to the story.
When it came to the story, the journey was very much focused on reuniting Neo and Trinity. The movie was a far out sci-fi trippy love story and I was completely okay with that because it was done in such a cool and wild way, and I appreciated that. I’m just a fan of these characters and seeing this film bring them back together after all these years was awesome.
It’s definitely not the best film in the franchise, but I enjoyed the experience of watching it. I’ve been seeing a lot of different reactions for this movie. I can totally see and understand why some people don’t like it, as it didn’t really have any of those jaw-dropping moments that we all loved from the original movie. But, for me, it was the way that the story was told that made it different and stand out.
The Matrix Resurrections reunites Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss as cinematic icons Neo and Trinity in an expansion of their story that ventures back into the Matrix and even deeper down the rabbit hole. A mind-bending new adventure with action and epic scale, it’s set in a familiar yet even more provocative world where reality is more subjective than ever and all that’s required to see the truth is to free your mind.
The rest of the cast includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Jonathan Groff, Christina Ricci, Telma Hopkins, Eréndira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemel, Brian J. Smith, and Jada Pinkett Smith. Everyone in the film was great!
If you’re a fan of The Matrix films, yeah, you should watch it! I have no idea if you’ll like it or not, but it’s worth checking out just to see Neo and Trinity reunite.
