Just when I think the Marvel films couldn’t get any better, they release Thor: Ragnarok! The movie completely blew me away! It’s got all the great action and solid story elements that we expect to see in the Marvel films, but Ragnarok takes it to a whole new level with it’s wild and colorful style and wickedly funny humor.
Before I get into it, I just want to say that I am keeping this review 100% spoiler free. There's just so much great stuff in the film, and I don't want to ruin that experience for you.
Director Taika Waititi did such an amazing job bringing this world to life, and at the same time completely pays tribute to the art of Jack Kirby. The reason the movie looks so damn good with all it’s crazy colorful set and costume designs is because of Waititi’s vision of bringing Kirby’s classic art style to the big screen in a way we’ve never seen before.
Thor: Ragnarok is unlike any Marvel film that has been made in the MCU so far. A lot of fans seemed to be comparing the film to Guardians of the Galaxy by what they were seeing in the trailers, but the movie goes way beyond that! This movie is so much more colorful and vibrant than Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s also funnier. In fact, Thor: Ragnarok is easily the funniest film that Marvel has released! If you don’t laugh your ass off during this movie, you have no sense of humor.
The movie isn’t just filled with great comedy, though. It's got all of the awesome badass action sequences that we expect to see in these Marvel movies. It also has a solid story; plays with familiar characters in a way we’ve never seen before; and introduces us to some fantastic new characters that fans are going to love!
We get to see a side of Thor, Hulk, and Loki that we’ve never seen before. They get a bit more wacky and crazy this time around and their personalities all shine a little bit brighter than we’ve seen in the previously made films that they’ve appeared in. It’s really quite refreshing. Obviously, they are brilliantly played by Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Tom Hiddleston.
As far as the new characters go, Hela, Valkyrie, and Skurge were all badass! Cate Blanchett was perfect in the role of Hela, she completely owned the part and ended up being one of the best villains in the MCU. She enlists the help of Skurge, who is fantastically played by Karl Urban. Then There’s Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, who ended up being one of my favorite characters in the film, she was such a fun and kickass character, and I hope that we get to see more of her in the future!
Then there are the side characters like Jeff Goldblum’s The Grandmaster and Taika Waititi’s Korg that were brilliantly funny and unique characters that added some wicked great comedy to the movie. They were scene stealers and had the audience busting up with laughter every time they were around.
I’ve enjoyed the two previous Thor movies more than most. But, Thor: Ragnarok is definitely the best of them. I think it’s one of the most entertaining Marvel movies made so far! It’s just a ridiculously fun film to watch! It’s an absolute blast! I'm so excited for all of you to see it and I can't wait to hear what you all think.
