Review: Tim Burton's DUMBO is a Heartwarming Magical Adventure For The Whole Family
As a long time fan of director Tim Burton, I was looking forward to seeing his live-action take on Disney’s animated classic Dumbo. I was initially surprised when Burton was first hired to direct the film, but the more I started seeing from the film, the more I began to think that he was a great choice to develop the project.
I’ve always loved the visual style that Burton brings to his films, and that style and tone of his fits perfectly in the world of Dumbo. The filmmaker was definitely working in his element with Dumbo and it shows in the film. He did an incredible job telling the story of Dumbo and bringing it to life for the big screen.
The movie was big, heartwarming, adventurous, vibrant, and filled with wonderful, likable characters. I thought the movie was a wonderfully fun, magical adventure film. I had the opportunity to take my youngest daughter with me to see it as well and she loved it!
Dumbo is a movie that the whole family can enjoy. But, I will say that there were some very emotional moments in it, especially when Dumbo’s mom is being taken away from him. There were scenes like that that had my daughter in tears because it’s so sad.
Don’t worry, though, the kids won’t be crying all through the film! The movie is also filled with funny comedic moments that had us laughing and there were also some great intense scenes that had my daughter and I on the edge of our seats!
If you are a fan of the original animated Dumbo movie, I don’t know how you won’t enjoy this new adaptation. It really does honor the story and I liked that it’s not an exact remake of the original movie. This movie has made some changes that allow the movie to stand on its own. Disney, Burton, and his creative team ended up delivering a film that audiences will love.
Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant (Eva Green), until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets.
I’m sure that there are critics out there that will find all kinds of faults, but in the end, it was an entertaining movie that I think many of you will enjoy.
