Review: TO ALL THE BOYS: P.S. I STILL LOVE YOU: Slightly Rushed Love

To All The Boys: P.S I Still Love You is a great continuation of the story of Lara Jean. While it may have some better acting, story beats and visuals, there were some problems that carried over from the last installment of the series.

From start to finish, the music, camera sweeps, and visual/audio storytelling is great. Conveying a plethora of emotions from scene to scene, the songs acted as great transitions. However, I felt a few too many times that the dialogue and scenes themselves were meant to be in transitions for the songs instead of the other way around.

Lana Condor knocked it out of the park again, being able to express with words just as well with body and facial expressions. Noah Centineo did great with Peter and all the returning cast dived deeper into their roles. Newcomer Jordan Fisher also performed with grace and power, being the tempting, yet humble third end of the love triangle. Lastly, Holland Taylor coming in as Stormy steals every scene she is in with her sweet and strong performance, and Lana does a great job playing off of her, looking to her for advice and guidance.

The story and set up is pretty good, but even more so in this movie than the last, there were too many moments that were insane good/bad luck for our characters. I understand that this movie is a romance, and it needs fuel for the flames, but sometimes it felt unnatural how events played out. Between miscommunication, people appearing at the wrong time/place, and a few baffling choices, I found the suspension of disbelief to be a little more difficult in P.S. I Still Love You. On the other hand, there were a few big saving graces too, like persistent feelings of love, a surprise conversation that rounded out Laura Jean’s character near the end and other things. These really great moments balanced out the “too easy” circumstances mentioned before.

This move was pretty good! It may fall just a little short in a few ways compared to the first, but some new faces and solid performances still make this an entertaining little love story to enjoy.
