Review: WANDAVISION Is a Great Show with a Tinge of Twilight Zone Madness

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to recently watch the first three episodes of Marvel’s latest product WandaVision. The Disney+ series that focuses on Wanda Maximoff and Vision is the project that is kicking off Marvel’s Phase Four, and this is going to be one heck of a trippy and wild Marvel ride! This is definitely different from anything we’ve seen Marvel do before, but I’m hooked and excited to see where this journey takes me.

The first two episodes do a great job of setting up the TV land world that this series is set in. It’s packed full of homages to the classic black and white TV shows of the 50s and 60s. It captures the cheesiness of those shows perfectly in the dialogue, acting, and the zany situations that the characters find themselves in.

Throughout these first couple of episodes, there are little hints that something is wrong. Something is definitely off in this TV land, but Wanda is fighting against these signs that present themselves. She obviously does not want to leave this reality with Vision that she is living in her head.

Along the way, we are introduced to several other colorful and interesting characters that will be joining Wanda and Vision on their journey through the different eras of TV. There’s certainly a slight nightmarish Twilight Zone madness to the whole thing. It starts off slow in these first three episodes, we all know that it’s going to build into something spectacular.

The series really finds its footing in the third episode. That’s where things really start to click and kick into a whole new exciting gear. While the first two episodes are a solid set up to this TV land world in Wanda’s mind, the third episode is the one that really grabbed my attention and got me excited for what the future of the show has to offer. It’s the episode that starts to open doors to questions that arise as you watch the series.

It’s fantastic to see Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany back in the roles of these characters, and they both give awesome performances. They are doing things in this series that we’ve never seen them do before and I have to say that Bettany is freakin’ hilarious in this series! There are scenes involving him that had me busting up laughing.

I’m not going to go into much more detail as I don’t want to spoil the experience for you if you haven’t watched the show yet. But, this is going to be a great show and I’m looking forward to seeing how the rest of the story is going to play out. I personally like the charm with the underlying darkness of it and I’m curious to see what other Marvel fans think of it. It might not be for everyone, but I’m digging it so far.
