Reviews Are Rolling In For DEATH NOTE...And They Aren't Good
The reviews are rolling in for Death Note, and very few of them are positive. From casual fans with a light grasp on the idea to hardcore fans of the anime, a wealth of people seem to be upset with Netflix's take on the popular manga/anime.
Most of the reviews can be summed up by saying "The movie sucks, they executed it poorly, but Willem Dafoe is good," but one quote in particular from Indiewire's David Ehrlich stuck out to me:
Part of you will wish this had been a Netflix show instead of a Netflix movie - part of you will wish Netflix had left it alone altogether.
If that doesn't tell you all you need to know, I'm not sure what else will. The stupid thing is Netflix could've totally made a live-action series and taken the time to get it right, but instead made the same mistake every live-action anime film does and tried to condense an entire series into a two-hour breakdown.
I can't say I'm surprised to be reading these bad reviews, but it doesn't make me any less disappointed. The film is set to hit Netflix this Friday, will you be watching?
