Rey Returns to Jakku in STAR WARS: THE JAWS OF JAKKU Audio Adventure Before the Next Jedi Chapter

While the Star Wars fans wait for the return of Daisy Ridley's Rey to return to the big screen, the character is already making her comeback in a different way. Before we get to see her pick up a lightsaber in a new Star Wars movie, fans can dive into a brand-new Star Wars Audible Original titled Star Wars: The Jaws of Jakku, a story that fills in the mysterious gap between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.

Set in the aftermath of the Battle of Crait, the new audio story follows Rey back to the desolate planet she once called home. The story doesn’t tie directly into New Jedi Order, but it does provide a look at Rey’s early Jedi journey under General Leia Organa, while also pulling Finn and BB-8 back into the action.

The description reads: “Following the events of The Last Jedi, Rey struggles to let go of her lonely childhood on the desert planet of Jakku. Hoping to have a breakthrough in her Jedi training, she returns to her home world with Finn and BB-8 in tow.

“When they meet a young girl on a dangerous mission to save her family, they travel through pitch-black tunnels beneath the sand where they encounter scurrying gnaw-jaws, a haunting terror from the past, and maybe—just maybe—hope for them all.”

The Jaws of Jakku is an immersive Audible Original, told from the first-person perspective of the young Jakku girl Rey encounters. That narrative twist adds a fresh point of view to the Star Wars universe, as the story explores her mission, her fears, and how Rey’s presence shapes her journey.

Helen Sadler brings it all to life with the vocal performance, while Cavan Scott, who penned the story, teased even more surprises.

“Out Thursday, 9th October, the exclusive audiobook is set between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker and sees Rey struggling with her training under her new master, General Leia Organa.”

Scott also hinted at a “major Star Wars legend” making an appearance. Who exactly? We’ll have to wait and listen to find out.

Meanwhile, Star Wars: New Jedi Order is still simmering in pre-production. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still set to direct, and the movie has shuffled through writers, including the departure of Steven Knight, who opened up about his experience:

“There’s a system, and when you engage with it, you know what it is,” Knight said. “You do your bit, you turn in your draft or drafts, as I did, and then the system moves on. I fully expect that substantial amounts of what I did will be in the movie – who knows? But that’s the expectation.”

George Nolfi has since taken over writing duties, and Ridley seems confident in where the story is heading. Speaking to ComicBook earlier this year, she said:

“I have not read the latest script, but I know what’s happening, and I know the story, and I think what feels really good is that George is a phenomenal writer.

“I think we’re making sure that this story is the best way, this script is the best way to tell the story, and I think it will be worthwhile. for everyone watching it, and I am very excited, yeah.”

No release date has been set for the movie just yet, but Star Wars: The Jaws of Jakku drops October 9 exclusively on Audible. It's available to pre-order now for $24.95 or as part of Audible’s premium token subscription.
