Rian Johnson Interested in Directing Episodes of THE MANDALORIAN Season 2

Rian Johnson, the director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the recent murder mystery film Knives Out, is currently developing his own original Star Wars trilogy for Lucasfilm. But that doesn’t mean he’s not interested in working on other Star Wars projects! In fact, during a recent interview with Cinema Blend, he is interested in jumping on board Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian Season 2 and directing some episodes. When asked about it he said:

“Hell yeah! Man, if I had the time, I would get in there in a heartbeat. I had a set visit for Season 1 and it looked amazing. It looked like so much fun!”

As I write this I can hear all of The Last Jedi haters screaming “No!” at their computer or phone screens. While I like Johnson as a filmmaker, he doesn’t really need to direct any Mandalorian episodes. That’s taken care of. Johnson just needs to make his original films and focus on his Star Wars trilogy.

As of right now, we don’t know what Lucasfilm’s plans are for their future slate of Star Wars films after The Rise of Skywalker is released. We are getting a few other Disney+ series in the meantime, though, including the Rogue One prequel with Cassian Andor and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

While there are no plans, and I doubt it will happen, would you like to see Johnson direct an episode of The Mandalorian? Or do you want him to stay away from it?
