Rian Johnson is Developing a "Sequel of Sorts" To KNIVES OUT with Daniel Craig Returning

While Rian Johnson may be hated by a lot of Star Wars fans with what he did with The Last Jedi, the guy sure did make a hell of a great murder mystery thriller with Knives Out! While I personally liked what he brought to Star Wars, I enjoy seeing him make original film projects a lot more.

With Knives Out being a box office and critical success, I guess it shouldn’t be surprising to learn that the filmmaker is currently writing a sequel of sorts. The news comes from Showbiz 411, who says Johnson has been "commissioned to write a sequel of sorts" to Knives Out.

The report goes on to say that the film will tell an all-new story for Craig's detective character Benoit Blanc. In this story, he will have a new crime to solve with a new set of characters. I really enjoyed the character that Craig played in the film, so I’m totally up for seeing a new story with him.

Johnson confirmed the news with THR, saying that he was eager to make the pic quickly, ideally in the next year. He added, "Daniel had so much fun doing it, and he wants to do more.”

Johnson's producing partner Ram Bergman added that Craig was eager to reprise the role. "Daniel had so much fun doing it, and he wants to do more," he said.

Johnson previously talked to IndieWire about Knives Out, and he said he had so much fun making the movie that he would love to make another one with Craig:

"I'll tell you, the truth is I had such a great time working with Daniel Craig and I had so much fun doing this on every level, from writing it to making it. I've never really been interested in doing sequels, but this, the idea of doing more of these with Daniel as his character, is not sequels. It's just what Agatha Christie did. It's just coming up with a whole new mystery, a whole new location, all new cast, whole new mechanics of the appeal of a mystery and everything. It'd be a blast."

Well, it looks like he’s going to be doing just that. I can’t wait to see what he’s got in store for this new story he’s developing!
