Rian Johnson Says He Won't Be Bothered if J.J. Abrams Retconned THE LAST JEDI with STAR WARS: EPISODE IX
Some of the creative choices that Rian Johnson made in Star Wars: The Last Jedi didn’t sit well with some fans. Johnson and the film have been getting a lot of crap from these fans. These fans are hoping that J.J. Abrams will fix the damage that they feel Johnson inflicted on the franchise.
We have no idea what Abrams is planning, and apparently neither does Johnson. But, while talking to MTV in a recent interview, the filmmaker was asked if he’d be bothered if Abrams retconned the revelation that Rey’s parents were no one, or any of his other choices, and he explained that it wouldn’t:
“Like I said, man, I want to let go of all my expectations. I want to sit back. I want to be entertained. I want to be surprised. I want to be thrilled. I want him to do stuff I wasn’t expecting him to do and just go along for the ride.”
So, just like the rest of the fans, he’s just excited to see how the story plays out! Johnson may not be involved at all with Episode IX, but he is going to be getting back to work on the original Star Wars trilogy that Lucasfilm hired him to do after The Last Jedi. When addressing what David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.are doing with their Star Wars films, Johnson said:
“I’m also psyched about the things they are going to explore beyond what we’ve seen already. To me, that’s kind of the most exciting stuff is pushing the limits of seeing stuff we haven’t seen before in Star Wars.”
Star Wars: Episode IX is set to be released on December 20th and next week is Star Wars Celebration and there’s going to be a ton of cool news coming from that!
.@rianjohnson is just as excited for J.J.
