Rian Johnson Says THE LAST JEDI Will Have Fewer Wipe Transitions Than Any Other STAR WARS Movie
Throughout the Star Wars Saga, there are many things that tie all the films together, the opening crawl, the iconic score, and the stylized wipe transitions. The next film in the franchise, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, is only a few months away from hitting the theaters. But when we finally see it, we might notice a lot less of something familiar.
Writer/director Rian Johnson took to Twitter last week to reveal that The Last Jedi will have a fewer 'wipe transitions' than any other Star Wars movie (except for Rogue One). It's a technique that has been used in pretty much every Star Wars film ever made.
The most wipe transitions in a SW movie was Ep 1, with 55.

To my eternal shame, The Last Jedi is bringing up the rear with a measly 12.
On Twitter earlier this week Johnson asked which Star Wars movie had the most wipe transitions:
Just off the top of your head, which movie would you guess has the most wipe transitions?

He then followed that tweet up with the answer, naming Empire Strikes Back as the film with the most, and The Force Awakens with the least, 14.

Empire - 42 wipe transitions!
A New Hope - 31
TFA had just 14 https://t.co/l87EVGnKYf
Even though The Last Jedi won't be rich with creative wipe transitions, I'm confident that fans will be willing to look past that minor detail if the story is on par with all the other films.
