Rian Johnson Set to Direct Natasha Lyonne in the Mystery Drama Series POKER FACE
Rian Johnson (Knives Out, Looper, Brick, The Last Jedi) is set to write and direct a new mystery series for NBC’s streaming service Peacock titled Poker Face. Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne is also set to star in the 10-episode straight-to-series order.
This will be the first time that Johnson will be working a TV series, which he created and will executive produce alongside Lyonne.
As of right now, there are no story details to share for the series, but Johnson did say in a statement: “I’m very excited to dig into the type of fun, character driven, case-of-the-week mystery goodness I grew up watching. It’s my happy place. Having Natasha as a partner in crime is a dream, and we’ve found the perfect home at Peacock.”
Johnson previously shared this tweet with Lyonne last year, and it teases that the show will be inspired by the classic series Columbo.
Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming said in a statement:
“Rian Johnson’s distinct sensibility and talent for telling edge-of-your-seat mysteries is a massive gift for Peacock, and we can’t wait for audiences to delve into each case. Paired with the acting genius of Natasha Lyonne, this series will be entertaining and addictive.”
MRC Television President Elise Henderson added:
“Rian is a gifted writer and director who draws you in with his unique approach to mystery and we’re so proud to partner with him, and Ram, and to have Natasha Lyonne as our lead, and land this phenomenal show at Peacock with a talented team.”
I’m a fan of the films that Johnson has made. I’m very aware that not everyone shares that opinion, but I’m excited to see what he’s got planned for this new series.
