RICK AND MORTY Season 4 isn't Moving Forward Yet Due To "Complicated" Contract Negotiations

Last Week, Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon got fans of the series worried when he talked about how no one was working on Season 4 because Adult Swim hasn't ordered it yet. We now have the reason why Season 4 hasn't been greenlit.

Harmon recently appeared on Kevin Smith's SModcast where he clarified what was going on behind the scenes. As expected, they are in the middle of contract negotiations, this time around things have become complicated: He says:

"The reason we’re not working on Rick and Morty right now ain’t because I figured out that I don’t need to impress you. It’s because of a little something called contract negotiations and it’s gotten complicated this time around."

So, even though the show remains in limbo, it's certainly not doomed. I imagine the Rick and Morty creative team want more money and Adult Swim doesn't want to pay what they are asking for. But, Rick and Morty has become a huge pop culture phenomenon and when that happens, things are bound to get more complicated. If they want to keep the creative team intact, Adult Swim is going to have to pay the big bucks.

Hopefully, they can all reach an agreement soon so they can actually get started on Season 4! At this rate, we won't see any new episodes for another two or three years!
