RICK AND MORTY'S Dan Harmon is Developing a New Animated Series For Fox
Fox Entertainment has brought in Rick and Morty and Community creator Dan Harmon to develop a new series for them. He recently signed a broadcast network-only exclusive direct animation deal with Fox Entertainment. Under the deal, “Fox Entertainment’s first direct talent deal with a built-in series commitment, Harmon will create and develop a comedy series targeted to premiere on the network in spring 2022.”
Fox Entertainment will produce the series, with Fox-owned animation studio Bento Box Entertainment. Fox has been enjoying the success of its animated shows and they obviously want to expand on that. Over the past couple of years, the network has gone from the three animated series, The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers, to seven which include Bless the Harts, Duncanville and the upcoming Housebroken and The Great North.
Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn said in a statement:
“Before joining the network ranks, I was an independent producer who had the opportunity to work with Dan on one of my very first projects. His singular voice, tenor and conviction to always deliver the unexpected in the stories he tells, let me know right away that he was a special talent. As one of the most prolific creators working in the business today – and as Fox’s animation brand continues to grow and evolve, with the support and guidance of [Fox Entertainment CEO] Charlie Collier – there’s no better creative partner to have than Dan Harmon.”
I’m a fan of Harmon’s work and the stories he’s told in his shows. The guy just seems to have a lot of fun playing around with his characters in these worlds he creates. He gets a little crazy, wacky, and irreverent at times, and he delivers some solid entertainment!
There are no details on what the series is that Harmon is developing for Fox, but I’ll be looking forward to seeing what it is!
