RICK & MORTY Season 5 Featurette Clip Explores Rick's Tragic Backstory

A new clip has been released for a Rick & Morty Season 5 featurette titled, "Fighting Gravity: The Making of Season Five,” and it explores one of the reveals of Rick’s tragic backstory. That was one of my favorite episodes of Season 5 and it revealed that Rick's former family was killed by another Rick.

The clip features co-creator Dan Harmon, producer Steve Levy, and writer Jeff Loveness as they open up about Rick's past and the process they went through to tell this particular story.

Levy discussed how he approached Harmon about the extended canon for Rick and the series, but Harmon explained that he was concerned about introducing these elements because not only would it be difficult to pay off as much as fans hoped, but it was also a point from which the series could not back out. As a result, the team decided to resist the idea of a serialized canon for as long as they could, but it was also something they realized they couldn't avoid forever.
