Ridley Scott and Joaquin Phoenix Teaming Up for a Film About Napoleon Titled KITBAG
Director Ridley Scott is set to team back up with Joaquin Phoenix for another historical epic titled Kitbag. The story involves the French military leader and emperor Napoleon, and Phoenix is going to be playing him.
The film’s title, Kitbag, is derived from the saying, “There is a general’s staff hidden in every soldier’s kitbag.” The story will give us an “original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine.”
It’s explained that the intention of the film is “to capture Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary.”
I love the historical epics that Scott has made over the course of his career so, of course, I’m interested to see what he’s got cooking for Napoleon. I’m also looking forward to seeing how Phoenix portrays Napoleon in the movie.
Scott has hired screenwriter David Scarpa (All the Money in the World) to work on a script for the Napoleon epic. The film will be produced by Scott and Kevin Walsh for Scott Free.
Scott most recently wrapped The Last Duel with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. His next project is Gucci, which stars Lady Gaga as the murderess Patrizia Reggiani alongside Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Adam Driver, and Jared Leto. He plans on jumping into making Kitbag after that.
