Ridley Scott May Be Planning Multiple PROMETHEUS Sequels

Ridley Scott's new movie The Martian comes out on October 2nd, and after that, the director is heading back to space yet again for Prometheus 2. But according to a new interview with German film site FilmFutter, that may not be the only sequel he has planned for the franchise. There was some confusion around the time of the original movie's release about whether or not it was actually a prequel to Alien, but the movie's ending confirmed that it was (the creation of the iconic xenomorph pretty much answered that question if there was any lingering doubt). Now Scott says he's getting closer to connecting the stories of the two movies, but it might happen in yet another Prometheus sequel. ComingSoon has the quotes:

“Yes,” Scott replied when asked if Prometheus would directly connect to Alien, “but it won’t be in the next one. It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the Alien franchise… The whole point of it is to explain the Alien franchise and to explain the how and why of the creation of the Alien itself. I always thought of the Alien as kind of a piece of bacterial warfare. I always thought that that original ship, which I call the Croissant, was a battleship, holding these biomechanoid creatures that were all about destruction.”

Since these quotes were translated from German, there may be something lost in translation, but it certainly sounds like he has plans for a few more Prometheus movies before the link between the two is finally complete. Could that explain the rumored delay of Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5? If Scott has such grand plans, I can certainly see why he wouldn't want Blomkamp confusing audiences by dropping a sequel to Alien in the midst of his prequels to Alien. We'll have to see if this ends up being true, but what do you think? Would you watch multiple sequels to Prometheus?
