Ridley Scott Reveals His Original Ending For ALIEN and It's Pretty Brutal
When Ridley Scott embarked on his dark journey to direct the 1979 classic film Alien, he had very different ending envisioned for the film. The franchise would have been a lot different had he followed through with this ending. Hell, James Cameron would have never made Aliens!
Scott's original vision for the ending saw Ripley fail in her attempt to kill the Xenomorph and in the process of trying to kill it, she is brutally destroyed. When talking about it with EW, the director revealed:
"I thought that the alien should come in, and Ripley harpoons it and it makes no difference, so it slams through her mask and rips her head off."
It didn't end there. The director then went on to explain that after Ripley's meets her tragic demise, he also wanted to cut to the xenomorph pressing some buttons on the dashboard of the ship, before it would then "mimic Captain Dallas [Tom Skerritt] saying, 'I'm signing off'."
It sounds like a shocking end now because of everything that Ripley has been through since in the franchise. But had she been killed off at the end of the original movie before we knew Ripley would return in Aliens, it probably would've worked as a crazy shocking ending.
I'm glad Scott didn't kill off Ripley because then we would've never got Aliens, and I can't imagine living in a world without Aliens. What do you all think about Scott original ending for Alien?
