Ridley Scott To Direct The WWII Film BATTLE OF BRITAIN For Fox

Director Ridley Scott is looking to add a World War II film to his resume of films. According to Deadline, he's planning on directing a film based on the epic Battle of Britain, which was one of the first major battles fought entirely by air forces. The British were considered the underdogs in the fight but they ended up kicking the Nazi's asses.

The only other film that exists based on this epic battle was the 1969 film Battle of Britain, which was directed by Guy Hamilton. Here is a breif rundown of the story:

In the summer of 1940, after Adolf Hitler swept through France and drove the British army out of mainland Europe, the British public readied themselves for a Nazi invasion. A large part of Hitler’s early-war momentum was driven by his powerful air force, the Luftwaffe, and in late June 1940 (after the Dunkirk evacuation), Germany began to prepare for a battle with Britain’s Royal Air Force. Around 3,000 RAF men fought the mighty Luftwaffe in the battle, which lasted 112 days, and by October, the RAF emerged victorious. It became the first major defeat for Germany in WWII and is seen as one of a few major turning points of the war for the allied forces.

I'm excited for this story to be adapted as a feature film and I'm happy that Ridley Scott is the guy who will take on the challenge of bringing it to life for audiences. The script for the film is being written by Mattew Orton, who previously wrote another WWII historical drama in development called Operation Finale.

The film is said to be a passion project for Scott and he's been wanting to make this film for a long time. It's currently in the early stages of development but it looks like he's eventually going to get around to it.

Scott is a busy guy and before he takes it on he's gearing up to direct All The Money In The World, which is about the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III and he’s lined up to direct The Cartel, which is about the drug war in Mexico. Then of course there are the five or six other Alien films he wants to make.
