Ridley Scott's GLADIATOR 2 Gets a 2024 Release Date!
Get ready for a return to the Colosseum! Paramount Pictures has announced that the highly-anticipated Ridley Scott-directed film Gladiator 2 will hit theaters on November 22, 2024!
Oscar-nominated breakout star Paul Mescal is set to star in the film as Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen), and nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), the son of Roman leader Marcus Aurelius who murdered his father and seized the throne.
Commodus met his downfall in the gladiator ring against Maximus, who despite being mortally wounded, took down the emperor before passing on to reunite with his family. Maximus had saved Lucius and his mother, leaving a lasting impact on the young boy.
Scott will direct the film from a script written by David Scarpa, and it will go into production after he makes his Napoleon movie. When previously talking about making a Gladiator sequel, Scott said: "You can't just do another Gladiator-type movie. You’ve got to follow…there’s enough components from the first one to pick up the ball and continue it."
November 22, 2024 is the weekend before Thanksgiving, and there are no other big releases scheduled for that date. Gladiator 2 will pave the way for an untitled Disney animated film set to hit theaters on November 27th. It’ll be fun to see this movie and feel the rush of the arena once again.
