RIVERDALE Creator Developing PRETTY LITTLE LIARS Reboot for Warner Bros.
It has been reported that Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who created the series Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, has decided to take on a reboot of the 2010 teen drama series, Pretty Little Liars. The show ran for seven seasons on Freeform, under the Warner Bros. TV banner, and had a pretty solid following. The show ended just three years ago though, so I am really confused by the reboot. It had a long run, and it’s not far out of people’s minds, so I don’t know what the point is. Maybe the new series will right a wrong that fans were unhappy with at the end of the series?
Variety reports that the show has not yet been taken out to market, “but a natural destination would be HBO Max, which is also owned by WBTV’s parent company, WarnerMedia.” According to sources, the streaming service is looking to build out its offerings of YA content. HBO Max is currently prepping a sequel series to another popular teen drama, Gossip Girl.
Pretty Little Liars, which was based on Sara Shepard’s books of the same name, revolves around the titular Liars, who are being tormented by a mysterious villain known as “A.” Would you care about a Pretty Little Liars reboot?
