R.L. Stine's FEAR STREET Film Trilogy Making the Move From Disney to Netflix With a Summer 2021 Release

Up to now, Disney had control over the upcoming film trilogy Fear Street, based on the popular horror books from iconic children and teen author R.L. Stine. But the rights to the movies have been purchased in a deal this week by the major streamer Netflix, who will make the films and release them all a month apart next summer.

The event will be marketed by Netflix as “The Summer of Fear,” and will be a more natural fit at the streamer than at Disney, in my opinion. The books the movies are based on tell the following story:

The Fear Street saga starts in 1994, where a group of teens find out that a terrifying series of events in their hometown of Shadyside, Ohio, might be connected. Worse, the teens might be next up as targets. The films cover three different time periods, including the 1600s.

My kids love the Goosebumps movies, and are big fans of the books that I read growing up, so we will be excited to check these movies out. It’s also nice to know that there are several movies who are finding their homes at streamers instead of being pushed off indefinitely. It has been so nice to get the occasional new content during the pandemic with the theaters shut down, so it’s nice to have more movies to look forward to, no matter what things look like next summer.

Are you a fan of Stine’s Fear Street novels?
