Rob Liefeld's Comic Book Series PROPHET is Getting a Feature Film Adaptation
Rob Liefeld's has got to be loving the success that Deadpool and his other Marvel characters have seen on the big screen. Now another one of his comic book creations is getting the movie treatment! Studio 8 has acquired the rights to his 1992 series Prophet.
In case you're not familiar with the character, John Prophet is very similar to Captain America, but without all the red, white, and blue patriotism. He's more of a Hawkeye purple kinda guy.
He was a homeless man living during World War II and he ended up volunteering to be a part of an experimentation program being run by a time-traveling scientist from the future named Dr. Horatio Wells. He ends up turning John into a supersoldier by using DNA-enhancing methods and is initially engineered to be a murderous villain.
Wells had a change of heart though and changed Prophet’s programming from evil to a strong belief in God. Wells planned for Prophet to be placed into stasis for many years and then re-emerge in the future to help Wells’s people fight the evil Disciples. Eventually found by Youngblood, Prophet awakens disoriented, in a world he does not recognize.
Prophet made his first appearance in the Image Comics series Youngblood and then ended up getting his own spinoff series in 1993. When talking about the vision for the film, Liefeld tells THR:
"It makes sense that it's a destination that we can arrive at if we are successful. We're taking the best of Prophet to create the best cinematic version of Prophet that we can. He's very pure in his motives to help out his family and ends up becoming something completely different."
Liefeld tells them that Prophet is one of the characters that fans have been hounding him about the most when it comes to big screen adaptations of his character. He ended up choosing Studio 8 after having several meeting with various studios over the year because they made the right pitch to him. He says:
"They did their homework, and not only did they do homework, they are true fans."
Hopefully, they give the character the badass film adaptation that he deserves. What do you think about Prophet getting his own film adaptation?
