Robert Downey Jr. Is Set to Play Doctor Dolittle in THE VOYAGE OF DOCTOR DOLITTLE

Universal Pictures is developing a new Doctor Dolittle movie and this time the character will be played by Robert Downey Jr. I won't lie, this is some surprising casting. This doesn't seem like the kind of movie Downey would be a part of, but I guess I'm wrong!

The movie is called The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, and it's based on the classic character created in the 1920s that has the special ability to talk to animals. The character was previously portrayed by Rex Harrington in the late '60s and Eddie Murphy in the late '90s.

It was also announced that the film would be written and directed by Stephen Gaghan, who most recently directed Matthew McConaughey in the film Gold. He also wrote and directed Syriana and won an Academy Award for the screenplay he wrote for Traffic. This doesn't seem like a film he'd be a part of either, but I guess I'm wrong... again.

I've never been a fan of the Doctor Dolittle character, but with these two incredibly talented individuals getting involved, they must feel that they have a great film project to work on. There are no details on the story, but it will obviously center on Doctor Dolittle embarking on a journey, and along the way, he'll be talking to animals and saving them.
