Robert Downey Jr. To Star in HBO Drama For TRUE DETECTIVE Creator

Robert Downey Jr. has been trying to get a Perry Mason movie made at Warner Bros. for the past five years, and now it appears that he may be taking that project to the small screen. THR reports that Downey is teaming up with True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto for a mysterious drama at HBO, and their sources indicate it may be a reworked version of the long-gestating Perry Mason movie.

Perry Mason was a hugely popular legal drama that originally ran in the late '50s and early '60s, centering on a Los Angeles criminal defense lawyer who often dramatically revealed his clients' innocence by proving another person committed the crime.

This will mark Downey's return to television after his run on Fox's Ally McBeal, and his first time on the small screen since breaking out with 2008's Iron Man. What do you think? Would you watch Downey in a weekly courtroom drama?
