Robert Downey Jr. Want's To Stop Playing Iron Man "Before It's Embarrassing"

We all knew that Robert Downey Jr. wouldn't play Iron Man forever. I'm actually surprised that he's done it for this long! Spider-Man: Homecoming will be the eighth time that he will have played the character and he will return for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. I just assume that Avengers 4 would be the last time we see him in the role. One thing is for sure, Downey Jr. is ready to hang up his armor. While talking to News.com about all this, the actor said:

“It’s this cyclical thing. I could have said when the first ‘Avengers’ came out: ‘It’s never going to get any better than that. Everybody stop’. But to me it’s always about people and opportunities, like the Russos, who I adore. Everyone says to me it’s like a glove that fits so well. I have to start over every time but I am starting over with a pretty solid base. I just never want to blow it for the last six or seven [MCU movies] I have done by dropping the ball because I decided to go do it one more time. I just want to hang up my jersey before it’s embarrassing.”

As much as I do love Downey Jr. in the role of Iron Man, I do think it's time for him to stop playing Tony Stark. He's done it for so long, he has earned his way out. When he does leave, it needs to be at the top of his game and I think that's coming with the next two Avengers films. Everything in the MCU has been leading up to these two films!

I have no idea what they will do with the character. I don't know if they'll kill him off or just let him ride off into the sunset never to be seen again. I just think it's time to bring Tony Stark's story arc in the MCU to a close. I'm sure there are several other film projects that Robert Downey Jr. would love to be a part of. He's given this character his all over the years, and it's ok for him to say goodbye... after Avengers 4, of course.
