Robert Eggers’ WERWOLF Poster Teases a Terrifying Vision of a Medieval Werewolf
We're only five months away from the release of Werwulf, and if you needed another reason to get excited for Robert Eggers' next nightmare, Focus Features has delivered one.
The studio has revealed the film's poster, and it's exactly the kind of eerie, old-school horror imagery you'd hope to see from the filmmaker behind The Witch, The Lighthouse, and Nosferatu.
The newly released poster also debuts the film's haunting tagline: "Devoureth All Mankynde." It's a fitting tease for a movie that's shaping up to be a savage medieval horror story.
Even better, the artwork offers fans their first glimpse of the film's terrifying werewolf. The image leans hard into a classic black-and-white horror aesthetic, creating an unsettling atmosphere that feels pulled straight from the pages of an ancient nightmare.
That striking visual style isn't just for the poster either. Eggers recently explained how the film achieves its distinctive look:
“We shot on 35mm film, and we used an orthochromatic treatment in post to make the skin tones more wrecked [with complexions that appear sickly or discolored]. Additionally, we’ve found a way to incorporate the grain structure of black-and-white film onto color film. So it has a very unique look.”
It certainly sounds like Eggers is pushing the visual style of Werwulf into some fascinating territory. The combination of traditional film photography and vintage-inspired techniques should give the movie an identity that stands apart from anything else arriving in theaters this holiday season.
Set in 13th-century England, Werwulf follows a mysterious creature stalking the countryside as local folklore transforms into horrifying reality. The official logline reads:
“Witness Robert Eggers’ most visceral and haunting experience yet. Focus Features presents Werwulf, a harrowing tale of devotion, damnation and the devil within.”
Eggers previously offered an ominous tease about the project, saying: “It’s the darkest thing I’ve ever written. By far.”
The cast includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nosferatu), Lily-Rose Depp (Nosferatu), Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse), Ralph Ineson (The Witch), and Bodhi Rae Breathnach (Hamnet).
Werwulf claws its way into theaters on December 25 from Focus Features.
