Robert Kirkman Is Bringing TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE Together in an Epic Animated Series

A massive animated series crossover is on the way, and it’s bringing together some of the most legendary franchises in pop culture.

Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment and Hasbro Entertainment are teaming up to expand the Energon Universe, this time as an adult animated series based on the hit comics of the same name.

According to Deadline, Energon Universe is set to be an “epic crossover” that fuses the worlds of G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Void Rivals. The project is being developed with Joe Henderson, best known for his work on Lucifer, serving as showrunner.

The show is being described as “broad” and in the same spirit as Kirkman’s dark and gritty hit Invincible, which has been a major success for Prime Video. The series is expected to attract plenty of attention as it’s taken out to potential buyers soon.

It’s reported: “Kirkman, a Transformers and G.I. Joe fan since childhood, won the comic book publishing rights to the signature Hasbro brands in 2021. He went on to create a cohesive shared universe in which Transformers and G.I. Joe co-exist together alongside original IP Void Rivals, which Kirkman co-created with Lorenzo De Felici.”

The Energon Universe comic line has become a massive success since its 2023 debut. “Two years in, Energon Universe has become one of Hasbro’s bestselling comic book lines ever, with over 7 million combined units sold worldwide. It launched in June 2023 with Void Rivals, which featured the surprise appearance of Transformers character Jetfire on the final page.

“That was followed by the October 2023 release of Transformers and four G.I. Joe character-focused miniseries, leading to a tentpole G.I. Joe series launch in November 2024, with Transformers #1, G.I. Joe #1, and Void Rivals #1 all setting sales records and Transformers winning two Edgar Awards in 2024.”

Now it’s making the jump from page to screen. Fans of both Transformers and G.I. Joe have been hoping to see a new badass crossover like this for a long time, and with Kirkman and Henderson leading the charge, this could be something pretty rad.

The Energon Universe animated series doesn’t have a network or streaming home yet, but the combination of these iconic brands and Invincible-level storytelling has the potential to be a huge hit.

Hopefully, the project gets a strong creative team that will deliver a great show with awesome animation.
