Robert Kirkman Says Omni-Man Would Eat Superman After Winning Their Fight

Few topics ignite comic book fans faster than a superhero showdown. Put two unstoppable powerhouses in the same conversation and everyone suddenly becomes an expert on who would come out on top.

One matchup that has been discussed for a long time is Superman versus Invincible's Omni-Man, and while fans will probably be continue debating it, Robert Kirkman has already made up his mind.

In fact, he didn't just explain who he thinks wins. He also shared a hilariously disgusting answer about what Omni-Man would do after the fight was over.

If you ask Robert Kirkman, though, there's nothing to debate. The Invincible creator has stood by his opinion for years that Omni-Man would defeat Superman in a one-on-one fight.

During San Diego Comic-Con, Kirkman was asked to take that hypothetical battle one step further. If Omni-Man wins... what happens to Superman afterward?

His answer was every bit as outrageous as you'd expect. “Obviously eat it,” Kirkman replied. “Now there’s going to be some fan like, ‘He could never chew it, Superman’s body is so strong he can’t chew it, it would be impossible to eat.’ Whatever. Superman fans, I don’t care.”

That's certainly one way to pour gasoline on one of comics' longest-running fan arguments. Whether you agree with Kirkman's take or think Superman would wipe the floor with Omni-Man, you've got to appreciate how committed he is to the bit.

Instead of giving a diplomatic answer or dodging the question, he doubled down in spectacular fashion and tossed another grenade into one of fandom's favorite debates.

While fans continue arguing over imaginary crossover fights, Invincible itself is in an incredibly strong position. Even though the original comic series by Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley wrapped up eight years ago, the animated adaptation has turned the property into an even bigger phenomenon.

Season 4 aired earlier this year, Season 5 is already deep into production, and Amazon has officially greenlit Season 6. That's a level of long-term security most animated series never get, and Kirkman couldn't be happier about it.

“I think that it is a great show of confidence and I couldn’t be more appreciative of it,” Kirkman said. “I think that the team at Amazon has given us the latitude to push boundaries and do crazy stuff, and I couldn’t be more happy there. So, yeah, I’ll be a complete shill for Amazon. Please get Prime, get your packages fast.”

It's easy to see why Kirkman is excited. The animated series has faithfully adapted some of the comic's most shocking moments while continuing to attract an incredible cast.

One of the newest additions is Jack Quaid, who fans already know from The Boys. Quaid is joining Invincible Season 5 as Gravitator, and according to Kirkman, bringing him onboard wasn't a difficult decision.

“He’s somebody that we went after because I love his Hughie. And he’s been great in so many different things; he’s a great actor, he was perfect for the part,” Kirkman said. “

Pretty much nobody auditions for Invincible. It’s just like, ‘Hey, interested in doing this?’ And then they say, ‘Yes,’ and then we’re off to the races, and you just know that they’re going to be perfect for the part.”

That approach has certainly paid off. Invincible has consistently assembled one of the best voice casts in animation, and adding Quaid only strengthens an already impressive lineup.

As for the Omni-Man versus Superman debate, don't expect Kirkman to change his mind anytime soon. In his version of the matchup, Omni-Man doesn't just walk away with the victory. Apparently, he walks away with dinner, too.
